US based house DJ Ricardo Torres recently posted a wonderful insightful article entitled “Is Soulful House Dying?“. With an accurate observations on soulful house scene and industry, this post caused a long discussion in comments (and on Facebook as well) where people from all over the world share the situations. I’d like to express my full consent on Ricardo’s vision and to invite every one and all to read that post. A bit of teasing quote:

The recent worldwide recession and financial crisis has left the music and clubbing business almost dead. [...] we have less and less house nights which in turns means that (soulful) house DJs have less gigs (where they really make their money) so they start making other type of music (like freakin’ hard electro) so they can get gigs and so on, and so on. It’s like a domino effect. Is that how a scene dies? Or if you look at it in another way, is that how a scene is re-born?..

In April 2009, DJ MEME visited Moscow to play at our Soul Color event in “The W Bar” at Winzavod. The gig was awesome and you now can try to catch the spirit on the short video I’ve just made. The quality is much to be desired but that’s what we have. Meme loves this clip.

Casamena Radio Hour

As you might know, my Summer Fondue Podcast features not only radioshow archive but some more sound goodies as well. Today I’m happy to share my new mix. It’s not that soulful of my usual taste, I don’t play that music much, but love it very much. The mix is entitled “Shine On: a mini trip to three decades of joy“, dedicated to my beautiful wife (as a present for her guests) and features wonderful disco cuts from 1975-2008 covering the whole 30 years of… well, our life time.

Summer Fondue Podcast was originally launched in July 2006 at SummerFondue.ru and was intended to cover soulful house industry news for Russian audience. It featured monthly 30-minutes mini mixes along with stories about artists, DJs, remixers and labels in Russian language. Appearing in iTunes Store, this podcast showed an interest from non-Russian audience though contained foreign language. Recently Summer Fondue Podcast drop a selection of live sets recorded in Moscow clubs featuring me, DJ Soulmate, and other soulful DJs playing. In today’s issue of Summer Fondue Podcast we have the first part of Soul Color live set recorded 16th February 2008 in Yello Club in Moscow. Soul Color is the crew of dedicated soulful house lovers, DJs and producers from Moscow, me included. We are unique Russian venture promoting this beautiful and live music to the Russian club scene. Our recent event featured live sax and guitars as well as live vocal from Sher Oston.

The first part podcasted today contains DJ A.G. live set including Timur Nekrasov on sax (at the end). Background club noise was also recorded, so it’s gonna be true live!

Let me welcome you to SummerFondue.com – another voice of soulful house music. This is the home of Summer Fondue Sessions radioshow with tracklists and shows archive. We will also post the industry news – expect quick reviews of new releases and some info on artists, labels, DJs… We’re looking forward to hear your comments (this site is actually a blog!). Don’t forget to grab the RSS feed to stay tuned. And if you happen to be in Moscow, Russia, – welcome along to our events.

Here we go! After almost 2 years of running SummerFondue.ru (aka SoulfulHouse.ru) I’m launching the international version. What’s that all about? That’s all about house music. Soulful house. Deep house. Jazzy house. Well, any house that feeds the soul. SummerFondue.ru was intended to popularize soulful house in Russia (yeah, I am Russian). Here in Russia we got strong domination of electro, minimal and other techno stuff, people got used to party those ways. But soulful house is on fire throughout the world, and I see no obstacles to evangelize it here as well. This is the music of beautiful people, of friendly parties, the music to stay in one’s heart, and “dance music for adults” (© Ricardo Torres) after all.

On the road to mass soulful injection in Russia I’ve started the bi-weekly radioshow that is now distributed among several online stations, and on local FMs in Russia (ever listened to Russian soulful house DJ? – Now you can). So this .com website is the radioshow home for foreign audience. Besides, I will share some soulful house industry news with you.

Here’s how this all is organized. This site runs WordPress engine. So it’s kinda blog. Every article is a blog post. Posts’ summaries are listed on the homepage in chronological order (though there’s “sticky posts” sometimes that live on the top for some time). Every summary has “Read more” link that points to full text article. Every post has categories and tags assigned. Categories are like site sections: they are now “Show’s archive” and “Releases” which are pretty much self-explanatory, and “General” for administrative site-related news. Tags are for more specific post description, they could be:

about subject (album, event, artist, label…);
about style (deep, afro, jazzy, latin, soulful…);
and about country (usa, uk, france, sweden…).

Both categories and tags are also listed at sidebar to the right on every page so you can navigate quickly. Visitors can comment any post. Name and e-mail (will not be published) are required. You can also subscribe to any post’ comments or track them via RSS. There are also some static pages on this site: about me (“DJ Soulmate“), “Radioshow” with the list of all shows and recent show online player etc.
